2001
Azazel is one of the chiefs of the 200 fallen angels. Azazel taught men how to "fashion swords and shields", and the women the "art of beautifying the eyelids." He is referred to as the "Lord of Hell, seducer of mankind". Azazel was the angel who refused to bow down when Adam was presented to God to the assembled hierarchies in Heaven. For this refusal, Azazel was henceforth dubbed 'the accursed Satan". He had said to God "Why should a son of fire bow down before a son of clay?" Azazel was cast out of heaven and in some lore is believed to be the first fallen angel, and the first star that fell from the heavens (which in some other lore, is believed to be Lucifer). Some also might remember that Azazel was the shifting demon from the movie Fallen, with Denzel Washington.
Either way you see it, I think this is a slightly different departure from my other works. I wanted to try something a little different, and try some different scanning techniques. I am also very interested in Angel/Demon lore, and this seemed to be a perfect opportunity to illustrate something of that nature.
Created for Halloween 2001, this print will be more limited than the ones that I had made before. The limited edition of this print has long been sold out.
